1/14 The Y2K Prediction for January 1, 2000
The Y2K prediction spread panic throughout the world as rumors surfaced suggesting that the turn of the century spelt certain doom for all humans. Computers help to run our world. We depend on them for everything from controlling our finances to directing airplanes. The doomsday prediction came about when a few scientists began to worry that computers would not be able to tell the difference between the 1900s and the year 2000 as we entered the new century.
It was predicted that the Y2K bug would trigger economic chaos all across the globe. Computers everywhere would suit down. There would be blackouts, no communications, airplanes would fall out of the sky and nuclear holocaust was unavoidable. While there were some computer problems reported across the globe, it certainly wasn't anything that remotely resembled the apocalypse.
